Brief history:
Southeast Asian Americans (SEAA) are the nation's largest-ever community of refugees. Millions of Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian, and Vietnamese families sought safety within America’s borders in the late 1970’s after the end of the Vietnam War.

Today, SEAA communities are uniquely vulnerable to being labeled and deported as "criminals." Because of a combination of lasting trauma, poverty, systemic mass incarceration, and decades of inadequate integration support, some Southeast Asian American youth fell into the cracks of unforgiving criminal justice and immigration systems. Our community members are deported as "criminals" at higher rates than any other community.
