Type 2 Diabetes in Asian Americans & Screen at 23

Watch the webinar on YouTube (From May 16, 2016)

Diabetes is gaining recognition as a global and national epidemic tied to obesity, but for Asian Americans, it is a hidden epidemic that can occur in patients who are not obese by general standards. Over half of all diabetic Asian Americans are undiagnosed, with thinner Asians at risk for developing diabetes and prediabetes.

During this webinar, Dr. Maria Rosario (Happy) Araneta, Professor of Epidemiology in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health at the U.C. San Diego School of Medicine, will discuss diabetes disparities and the impact on Asian American communities. Dr. Edward Chow, physician and President of the San Francisco Health Commission, will also talk about the “Screen at 23” campaign, a national effort to screen Asian Americans at a lower body mass index (BMI) than the standard screening cutpoint.
